Nneka could not have picked a more perfect title for her second album. Her soul sounds heavy -- with emotion, with personal and political heartbreak -- whether she's crooning a love song through a dubby waterfall or social critique over a Latin rock groove ("V.I.P"). But beyond her lyrics, Nneka's soul is heavy, each cut is masterfully constructed and delivered with gravitas and vibrancy. This is R&B rebuilt, its structures reconceived (see the unresolved "Restless" or the unexpected textures that come from bits of Afrobeat, hip-hop, jazz) and its foundation weighted with passion.
