Street's Disciple (Explicit)
Nas
Released:
Nov 2004
Label:
Sony Urban Music/Columbia
Ambitious and politically thorny, Nas' seventh album barely dented the pop charts due to its acerbic messages. "American Way" is an anti-voting screed that paints our political system as a pageant completely divorced from the reality of American life. Nas attacks: "On Kerry nuts, he look at you like a monkey/ You MC's on that old slavery path/ The Bushes'll look at yo' ass and laugh." On "These Are Our Heroes," Nas goes after black representation in the media, labeling Kobe Bryant a "jiggaboo, fake n*gg*" who "love a little butt crack." It's an angry and at times exhausting album, but it's also one of Nas' best.
