Two years after Black City, Matthew Dear's spongy, echo-soaked electronic pop makes more sense than ever, though it's unclear whether it's his music that's changed or the world around him. The title track, with Dear's baritone pitched down against queasy bleeps, is closest in spirit to his previous album; the slow-mo electro is compelling, but the robo-Lothario is a love-it-or-hate-it proposition. The closing tracks are more diffuse and more striking, with choral chants over feathery rustle; the sad organs and yelps of "In The Middle" are even better.
