Spice 1

Discovered by the Bay's OG pimp-rapper Too Short, Oakland's Spice 1 debuted in '91 with the scorching single "187 Proof." His first album dropped shortly thereafter, full of tense gangsta narratives and thick West Coast beats. Though he never quite attained the mass fame of Cali G's like Tupac and Dre, Spice 1 has always been a fan favorite. He released ten LPs between '92 and '00, and has collaborated with an assortment of Westsiders like E-40, CMW, Ant Banks, and others. In 2001 he unleashed his second best-of comp, Hits Vol. 2 Ganked & Gaffled.
