The Dillinger Escape Plan
From the outset, the Dillinger Escape Plan's sonic terror has been precision violence. Franticly unloading extreme dissonance and exacting attacks of gleaming chrome noise against chaotic rhythms, they embody alarmist anxiety. While they've never been shy to change direction mid-song (tempos converging, frenzied thrashing dropping away to tense, Sabbath slow-builds) their new direction widens the chasm between musical moments. Guitar grinds stumble into Fusion noodling and rip into a blastbeat-driven frenzy. Mr. Bungle comparisons are definitely at hand, though Patton and co. possess neither the aggressive abandon of the Dillinger Escape Plan nor vocalist Dimitri Minakakis' rash, unyielding percussive screams.
