The Naked And Famous
Sharing their name (which was taken from a Tricky lyric) with a manufacturer of high-end Japanese jeans, The Naked and Famous have stylish on lockdown. Faves of England's NME and compared to MGMT and The Ting Tings, the New Zealand group specializes in tightly coiled songs inspired by '80s electro-pop, with boy/girl vocals, monster riffs and a bubbling club-music pulse. Led by Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith, the band came together in 2008 to release two EPs, "No Light" and "This Machine"; in 2010 they released a pair of EPs for Neon Gold and Fiction, and their debut album, Passive Me, Aggressive You, debuted in the Kiwi charts' top slot. Released on their own Somewhat Damaged label, it was quickly snapped up by Universal for worldwide release.
